The Art of Japanese Lacquer

Discover IRIS NOBLE’s new collection, an ode to texture, ancestral craftsmanship, and Japanese artistry. The leather is elevated through a meticulous finishing process that reveals its depth and refinement, expressed through iris-flower reliefs and embossed lacquer medallions, signature elements of the Maison.

The collection draws inspiration from the philosophy surrounding Japanese urushi lacquer. With a history stretching back over 9,000 years, this ancient technique is based on the use of 100% natural lacquer, derived from the sap of the urushi tree. Carefully filtered and refined through a patient evaporation process, this sap becomes non-toxic and ready to be worked.

dialogue between two arts

Each piece is handcrafted using the art of urushi, a demanding technique that involves applying lacquer in thin successive layers, each requiring a specific drying time. Once the surface has been enhanced, the lacquered leather is entrusted to our Parisian artisans, who work on it with precision to create a unique piece where two arts meet.

Between heritage and creation

Combining ancestral heritage with contemporary brilliance, this new collection brings together the depth of Japanese lacquer and the subtle light of Swarovski crystals.

True masterpieces of craftsmanship, our models combine patent CALFSKIN, black Japanese lacquer, and entirely hand-finished details.

The LISA clutch stands out thanks to its sparkling Swarovski crystals, meticulously sewn on one by one, revealing extremely precise craftsmanship. The mini IVY Bucket, meanwhile, revisits black lacquer on patent CALFSKIN with delicate corner stitching on the top, entirely executed by hand. Two iconic pieces, where the combination of techniques and noble materials enhances the Maison's exceptional craftsmanship.
